10 Reasons to Buy Handmade Pottery
Salt Lake City, August 20, 2009 - In celebration of Clay Arts, Utah's 10th annual Holiday Pottery Sale, the organizers present a list of 10 great reasons to buy handmade pottery.
There is a story with every piece. It can be as simple as, "I bought this bowl at the Farmer's Market the day it rained." or as involved as "This vase was pulled red hot from a kiln and placed in a pit of hay and sawdust. The flame and smoke danced across its surface leaving these marks in their wake."
There is a potter behind every dish. Come to a pottery sale and meet the potter. You will feel a connection to a person each time you use that serving platter or vase.
You will always know which mug is yours. In a field of generic mass produced mugs, yours will be the only one that is just that shape, just that set of colors, and fits your hand perfectly.
Handmade pottery makes a great gift. It was made with care and love, it has a personality, it is unique and caries with it your message of caring.
Using and having handmade items inspires creativity. It is a reminder to see the world in new ways. It is an inspiration to pick up pen and paper or some knitting needles.
It is an investment in the local economy. When you buy local pottery, you are supporting a local entrepreneur, a truly small business.
Pottery is an affordable art. That plate is not just a plate, it is an expression of design and beauty. It is great art at a reasonable price and it is art that you can use.
Handmade pottery is an investment in quality. These are pieces that can last for years. After all, they are still digging up whole pots from prehistory.
Handmade dishes make your meals taste better. These dishes are special and your guests who appreciate that will anticipate your cooking favorably.
You can avoid the crush of the mall and mall parking lot. Park in lovely Sugarhouse park, meet the potters and enjoy their company.
The Holiday Pottery Sale will celebrate its 10th year this November. Over 25 Utah potters will sell works ranging from practical mugs and dinner settings to beautiful wall hangings. The sale is the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving (November 27th and 28th) from 10 am – 5 pm. It will be held at the Garden Center in Sugarhouse Park, 1602 East 2100 South. A silent auction will also be held as a fundraiser for Clay Arts, Utah.
