Holiday Pottery Sale

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Annual Pottery Sale Celebrates 10 Years of Handmade, Local Art

Salt Lake City, Utah – September 25, 2009 – The Holiday Pottery Sale will celebrate its 10th year this November. As part of the celebration, there will be a drawing for 10 commemorative cake plates. The sale will be held Friday, November 27th and Saturday, November 28th from 10 am – 5 pm. It will be held in the Garden Center in Sugarhouse Park (1602 East 2100 South). Anyone attending the sale can enter the drawing. No purchase is necessary.

The cake plates are being donated by a local potter, William James, and will feature a special 10th Anniversary design. The 10" cake plates will include the inscription "2009 - 10th Annual Holiday Pottery Sale" around their rim and will have a 10 pointed geometric design in the center. These will be a unique plate in that they are hand made and this design will be used only for this short run of plates.

The Holiday Pottery Sale is held every year on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year, 28 Utah potters will sell works ranging from practical mugs and dinner settings to beautiful wall hangings. This will be a wonderful opportunity to see a wide array of locally made ceramic works and meet the potters that make them. For the practically minded, this is an ideal event for finding a unique mug, plate, bowl, teapot, or even a chicken-bank. There will also be a wide selection of decorative pieces. These include vases and raku pots with smokey and colorful glazes. Sculptural works include toothsome fish, serene cats, and intricately carved desert creatures. For a true cross over in the arts, pick up a clay instrument and play some mud music. From flutes to trivets, if it can be made from clay, it will probably be there.

A silent auction will also be held as a fundraiser for Clay Arts, Utah. This auction will draw pieces from the wider selection of Utah potters. This is sometimes a chance to pick up a wonderful artwork or functional work for a discount price, and to support a great cause. All of the proceeds from this auction go to help fund educational programs sponsored by Clay Arts, Utah.
