An Affordable Gift: Pottery


Salt Lake City, Utah – September 25, 2009 – Locally made, hand made, high quality. These are all words you might associate with pottery. Now, add affordable. To prove the point, the organizers of the Holiday Pottery Sale in November have compiled a list of 10 items for $20 or less.


  1. $1 and up: Ceramic beads from Stan Roberts. Stan has an array of ceramic beads in tons of colors and textures. Sets of small beads at 10 for $8 to focal beads around $10.

  2. $5-$10: Fridge Magnets from several potters. Willey Beers has peppers and frogs, Ben Behunin has his imaginative faces. Something for every fridge.

  3. $6: Small bowls from Randi Lile. These small brightly colored bowls are perfect for a dipping sauce or holding spices for cooking.

  4. $9: Hearty mugs from Kevin Mahaffey. These earth toned mugs are perfect for warming up a cold winter morning.

  5. $10: Egg separators from Willey Beers. These are amazingly cute and effective. Crack your egg into this cup with a smiling face, tip it and the white comes out the mouth.

  6. $10: Christmas Ornaments: Wendy Woods has a selection of ceramic ornaments for your tree.

  7. $10: Earrings: Tara Robertson will have post earrings and ceramic pendants for $10.

  8. $10-$20: Soup bowls in almost every color and design. Use them in the kitchen to hold ingredients. Use the to serve the vegetables at dinner. Use them for a hot bowl of soup in the winter. They will add color and interest to your meal.

  9. $12 and up: Miniature Vases: Lara Carroll makes amazing miniature vases, perfectly shaped and fired with smokey grays and flashes of red. They are great for adding a interest detail to a shelf.

  10. $20: Butter dishes: Suzanne Storer will have 14 different colorful butter dishes that will fit your refrigerator.


Of course, there will be more expensive items as well. Perhaps an intricately carved sculpture for $125, or a exquisite wall hanging for $800. There will be items for almost any budget.

The Holiday Pottery Sale will celebrate its 10th year this November. The sale is the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving (November 27th and 28th) from 10 am – 5 pm. It will be held at the Garden Center in Sugarhouse Park, 1602 East 2100 South. A silent auction will also be held as a fundraiser for Clay Arts, Utah.


Clay Arts, Utah (www.clayartsutah.org) is a statewide non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to education and advancement of the clay arts. They support educational projects through direct grants and with workshops for potters and arts educators. Members range from professional potters to students and supporters of the arts, brought together by the desire to see the clay arts remain strong in our communities.
